I was lucky enough to study painting and drawing at the University of Kansas in the early 1980s.  While there, I studied under noted artists like Roger Shimamura and Robert Sudlow.  It was the work of Robert Sudlow and that of the French Impressionists in the late 1800s that impacted me the most.

I love the outdoors, so that theme comes through in most of my paintings.  Even my occasional still-life paintings have elements of the landscape in them.

I prefer oils, but enjoy experimenting with watercolors and chalk pastels.  Texture and visible brushstrokes are always present in my work.  Lastly, I enjoy working big, with many of my canvases measuring five or six feet wide.
